Incantation text
This incantation originates from the Slavic Midsummer tradition:
Kupala night, fire and water bright, Magic's time — has come tonight. With a flower wreath I bind my fate, Through the flame I weave fortune great. River water, wash illness away, Kupala fire — evil shall not stay. Woven by herbs, tempered by flame, On Kupala night — happiness I claim.
What to do after the reading
- Set the wreath upon the water — if it floats far, your wish will come true
- Jump over the bonfire (or candle) for cleansing
- Wash your face with river water from the bowl
Important warnings
Kupala ceremonies involve fire — observe fire safety. Swimming in bodies of water — only in safe locations. The ceremony is part of the most ancient Slavic tradition.
