Waning Moon Ritual — cleansing and release ceremony

Waning Moon Ritual — shadow cleansing ceremony

This waning Moon ritual helps rid yourself of everything negative: bad habits, toxic connections, illness, and misfortune. The waning Moon carries away everything excess and unnecessary, clearing the path for the new.

How to properly perform the waning Moon ritual

Preparation for the cleansing ceremony:

  • Light a black candle — it absorbs negative energy
  • Pour a circle of salt around the candle — a protective barrier
  • Write on paper what you want to get rid of
  • Perform the ritual sitting on the floor in the center of the room, facing the window

When to perform the ritual

  • Saturday — the day of Saturn, ruler of limitations and cleansing
  • Waning Moon — a mandatory condition, ideally three days before the new Moon
  • Time of day: midnight — the hour of transition, when the old departs

Incantation text

This incantation originates from the Slavic folk magic tradition:

The Moon wanes, the shadow fades, All that is dark from me cascades. With black candle I burn the blight, With salt I seal the circle tight. Illness, sorrow, grief — begone, Depart with the Moon before the dawn. What is written shall burn away, What is released shall never stay.

What to do after the reading

  • Burn the paper in the black candle's flame
  • Mix the ashes with the salt from the protective circle
  • Take the mixture outside and bury it in the ground or cast it into flowing water
  • Air out the room by opening all windows
